Aresep Plans First
Teleconference For
Public Hearings on
Increases in Bus Fares
and Water Rates
The public hearings on
the increases in bus
fares and water and
sewer rates will be by
teleconference, direct
from the offices of the
Autoridad Reguladora de
los Servicios Públicos (Aresep)
in Sabana Sur to the
conference rooms of the
Tibunales de Justicia
(court house) in Limón,
Heredia, Ciudad Quesada,
Liberia, Puntarenas,
Pérez Zeledón and
Cartago.
The first experience
will be on August 17 at
5:00pm as the public
will have the
opportunity to voice
their opinion on the
proposed 35% increase in
water rates proposed by
the Acueductos y
Alcantarillados (AyA).
The Aresep said that the
chosen locations are
equipped for
teleconferencing and
will affordthe public an
opportunity to see the
interior workings of the
regulator and offer
their opinions.
The AyA increase is to
provide the utility an
escalating rate scale
that would take it to
2011.
If the rate is approved,
a family that today pays
¢4.520 for 20.7 cubic
metres of water
consumption would pay
¢9.337 for the same
consumption in 2011.
On the same day, at
7:00pm, the Aresep plans
to hold a second
teleconference to debate
the proposed increases
in bus rates.
Carolina Mora of the
Aresep said that
teleconferencing allows
the regulator to same
time and money in not
having to move people
from San José to the
various communities.
Mora added that if the
experiences proves
positive, the number of
teleconferencing
sessions will increase. |
