Could Be On Probation Come Monday
Catholic church priest, Minor Calvo (Mínor
de Jesús Calvo Aguilar) may soon get his
freedom after spending five years behind
bars at the Unidad de Admisión de San
Sebastián (San Jose jail), expecting today
to get the good news of his approval of
conditional release.
The ministra de Justicia, Viviana Martin,
explained that the priest, who was sentenced
to eights in jail for fraud against the
faithful of Radio María de Guadalupe, will
be on Monday, May 25, if his probation is
approved and will have to sleep at least two
nights a week at the Centro Guadalupe.
In addition, Calvo is expected to stay free
of drugs and criminal behaviour as his
condition of probation.
The probation board of the Adaptación Social
has taken into consideration the priest's
conduct while incarcerated and that he has
his job at the Catholic church upon release.
Calvo was also one of two accused of being
the mastermind behind the murder of
journalist Parmenio Medina, whose radio
program "la patada" was critical of
Radio María and the fraud that was being
perpetrated on the listeners.
Medina, who fled the violence of Colombia,
was murdered on July 2, 2001, in front of
his home. Business and Calvo's partner in
the radio station, Omar Chaves, was
convicted of the murder plot and gunman Luis
Alberto Aguirre Jaime, for carrying it out. |
