Hemisphere Affairs Thomas Shannon will visit
Guatemala on Friday, Guatemalan diplomat
sources said on Wednesday.
According to information reaching here from
Guatemala City, Shannon's visit to Guatemala
is part of the first diplomatic approach of
the new U.S. government with Central
America.
Shannon will met with Guatemalan President
Alvaro Colom and Foreign Minister Haroldo
Rodas to discuss issues on the financial
crisis, regional security, commerce and
migration.
Before his visit to Guatemala, Shannon
arrived in El Salvador on Wednesday, where
he met with outgoing Salvadorian President
Antonio Saca and President-elect Mauricio
Funes.
Shannon's current visit is to prepare a
meeting on March 30 in Costa Rica between
Central American heads of government and
state with U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden.
