Guatemala to Sign Trade Deal
Panama - Panama and
Guatemala will ratify the bilateral protocol
of the Free Trade Agreement between Central
America and this nation on March 23,
according to official sources.
Panamanian Foreign Minister Samuel Lewis
recalled that the protocol was signed in
February 2008 to foster trade and promote
issues of common interest between the two
countries.
The Foreign Ministry pointed out that
Panamanian President Martin Torrijos will
travel to Guatemala on Saturday to meet with
his counterpart, Alvaro Colom.
Torrijos will also speak at a meeting of the
Committee of the Socialist International for
Latin America and the Caribbean, scheduled
for March 23-24 in the city of Antigua.
Lewis, who is also Panama's first vice
president, expressed certainty about the
positive influence of the agreement on
trade, which was ratified by the Panamanian
National Assembly and Guatemalan Congress.
He noted that President Colom "has paid
several visits to our country on different
occasions and in reciprocity, we will carry
out this visit that has a very broad
agenda."
In that regard, he recalled the security
agenda between the two countries. |
