Regional Energy Forum Inaugurated in Nicaragua

Managua - A Central American forum on renewable energy in rural communities was inaugurated here on Wednesday.

The forum "Renewable Energy on Rural Isolated Places in Central America" was organized by the Alliance on Energy and Environment (AEA), aiming to share the experiences of the countries in the energy sector.

In the inauguration of the forum, Nicaraguan Environment Vice Minister Roberto Arasquitain said that Nicaragua has approved seven projects of 350,000 euros (some 450,000 U.S. dollars) to produce renewable energy.

One of the projects will be financed by the governments of Austria and Finland in 2009, he said

Arasquitain said Guatemala and El Salvador are experimenting producing energy with seaweeds.

Some 300 delegates from Central America and Europe participated the forum, which will be concluded on March 20. The participants will visit the renewable energy projects in the country.
