Attendants To Receive
Training
Following the October
28, 2006, tragic fire at
the Escazú Centro Shell
gasoline station fire
that killed two young
children, the 360
gasoline stations around
the country will be
getting training on how
to avoid fires.
The Shell station
accident was a result of
an electrical short
circuit that caused the
voracious fire that
carbonized two children
trapped in their vehicle
as their mother looked
on in horror.
The Bomberos de Costa
Rica (fire fighters)
will be imparting
training in security and
fire prevention to all
gasoline station
employees around the
country.
The program will include
3.000 "pisteros" - gas
pump attendants - who
will receive basic
training on how to deal
with gasoline fires and
emergency evacuation
procedures.
Most of the pisteros
welcome the training.
The first training
course will be at the
service station located
in Las Juntas de
Abangares in Guanacaste.
