Guatemala Candidates
Head for Hills
The two candidates
competing for the
Guatemalan presidency
closed their campaign in
the capital Thursday, to
concentrate on the
country s interior
before the November 4
elections.
National Unity of Hope (UNE)
candidate Alvaro Colom,
whose government plan is
based on social programs
and generation of
employment, carried out
a walk and a meeting in
which he called for
people to vote next
Sunday with maturity and
reflection.
Meanwhile, his rival
Otto Perez Molina, from
the Patriotic Party
(PP), whose slogan is a
"firm hand" to fight
insecurity, closed his
campaign with an act in
the Bethania community,
west of Guatemala city.
On Friday, both
aspirants should stop
all propaganda activity,
and publication of vote
intention surveys and
media propaganda in the
national territory will
be prohibited.
From Saturday to Monday
at 6:00 am, the country
will ban the sale and
consumption of alcoholic
drinks in public places.
About 5,900 people are
called to vote next
Sunday, to elect the
country's president, who
will rule in the
2008-2012 period. |
