Nicaragua Salutes ICJ
Decision on Honduras
Case
Nicaragua expressed
satisfaction before UN
due to the most recent
decision of the
International Court of
Justice, which put an
end to the Territorial
and Maritime Dispute
between that country and
neighboring Honduras.
When taking part in the
plenary session
dedicated to the
analysis of the annual
report of ICJ, acting
ambassador of that
Central American country
at UN Mario H. Castellon
Duarte expressed that
decision was finally
welcomed by the two
sides.
"It is because the
subject had two facets,
the insular and the
maritime one, and the
decision of the Court
was favorable regarding
each one of them", the
diplomat indicated.
The Ambassador said that
the position assumed by
the Court was the result
of an absolutely
objective examination,
and also complete, and
impartial of the legal
regulations and
appropriate facts.
"We must highlight the
maturity of both
governments before the
decision became public,
who promised to mutually
support each other,
something never seen in
history, without
mattering the result ",
Castellon Duarte added.
He emphasized that
decision happens in a
ground of great interest
for the international
community as a whole,
which is the one
referred to the maritime
boundary, regarding
which the Court has made
direct contributions of
great importance and
interest. |
