Colombian Congress Members Subpoenaed
The Colombian Supreme Court s Criminal Court
summoned half of the members of the House
Accusation Committee (eight Congress people) to
declare about alleged irregularities in their
duties.
According to the judicial authority, they failed
to properly carry out an investigation against
ex Attorney General Luis Camilo Osorio after a
denunciation made three years ago by PDA Sen.
Gustavo Petro (Democratic Alternative Pole).
The Court found enough evidence to summon them
on charges of corruption with omission and
untruths, because they failed to investigate
Osorio for alleged links with paramilitary
forces, as Petro had denounced.
Those under investigation include House
Representatives Marino Paz, Jorge Homero Giraldo,
Ramiro Chavarro and ex committee member Jesus
Mariemberg, who was detained yesterday by order
of the Attorney General"s Office for alleged
links with paramilitary forces.
The Court also denounced loss of documents in
the proceedings against Osorio and the
negligence of representative investigators.
