Brazil, Chile May Join OECD
Brazil and Chile may join the Organization of
Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
Current OECD president, Pedro Solbes, Minister
of Economy and Finances of Spain and Jose Angel
Gurria, its secretary general, were optimistic
and the latter said that Brazil "is already
working closely with us but we want to get
closer."
Solbes explained that there is no calendar for
integration and Brazil and Chile will "not
become full members immediately."
The sources also pointed out that Russia, Chile,
Israel, Estonia and Slovenia head the list of
OECD aspirants and at a later date Brazil,
China, South Africa and India will be added.
Chile is an observer in the OECD while Brazil is
part of several committees, in both cases since
the 90s.
