Panama Continues
Poisoning Probe
Panama health officials
and the judiciary
continued in their
investigation Thursday
to determine the exact
number of victims of
poisoned medication,
which cost the lives of
101 definite victims.
Superior Court
Prosecutor Dimas Guevara
said that office is
investigating 540
denouncements, 386 of
them deaths, but the
Health Ministry
estimates the victims of
diethyl-glycol at 120,
with 101 dead and 19
with chronic damage.
Forensic Medicine
Institute Director Jose
Vicente Pachar said 15
of the 540 denouncements
were positive, 50
negative and the rest
await confirmation.
The crisis began October
2, with an official
epidemiological alert
for several deaths, then
