Nicaraguan President
Defends Unity
The defense of Latin
American and Caribbean
unity and integration,
and condemnation of
capitalism were the
kernels of the speech by
Nicaraguan President
Daniel Ortega Thursday
at his official
reception in Mexico.
President Ortega
attended a welcome
ceremony for his
official visit, offered
at Mexico's National
Palace by his Mexican
counterpart, Felipe
Calderon.
Ortega expressed
gratitude for the
welcome given, and
highlighted that
Nicaraguan National Hero
Augusto Cesar Sandino
nourished himself from
the revolutionary ideas
at that time in Mexican
national territory.
Also, he said that his
political organization,
the Sandinista National
Liberation Front (FSLN)
found unconditional
solidarity on Mexican
soil when fighting the
dictatorship of
Anastasio Somoza in
Nicaragua.
He talked about
eradication of hunger,
poverty, and making the
great transformations
Latin American and
Caribbean peoples now
demand.
The Nicaraguan president
criticized global
capitalism as a crippler
of environment, natural
resources, and
consequently, the human
race.
He said this was his
third meeting with
Mexican President Felipe
Calderon, and pointed
out that the meetings
held before were also
very open and sincere
