Guatemalans Value Ché Ideas
The ideas and example of Ché Guevara remain as valid in Guatemala today as they were through the years since he arrived to this nation, attracted by the revolutionary process of Jacobo Arbenz, political and social leaders said Friday.

In a ceremony to mark the 79th anniversary of his birth today, Guatemalans and Cubans who work in this country carried banners, backpacks and flags, and wore T-shirts and caps with the image of the Heroic Guerrilla, who arrived in Guatemala in 1953 and met several revolutionary fighters, including Cuban Nico Lopez, who nicknamed him Ché.

"Guatemala is a country worthy of being known and understood," Ernesto Guevara said at the time, in a letter addressed to a friend explaining the process of changes that was taking place here.

As part of activities in his memory, a mural displaying a photos from his youth, along with the images of the five anti-terrorist Cuban fighters unjustly held in US prisons, honorable followers of his example, was inaugurated at the Cuban Embassy.
