Grew 18 percent
Costa
Rica exported us$8,4 billion from April 2006 to
April 2007, an overall 18 percent increase in
one year, according to data from the Central
Bank.
The Ministry of Foreign Commerce (COMEX in
Spanish) said the dynamism of sales abroad was
due mainly to the excellent performance of the
industrial sector, whose exports went 20 percent
up. In the agricultural sector, the top selling
products are bananas, coffee, pineapple, and
cantaloupes.
The United States remains as the top buyer, with
41 percent of all Costa Rican exports, followed
by the European Union (16 percent), Central
America (14 percent) and China (13 percent).
Meanwhile, imports increased an overall 14
percent in the same period.
