Cuba : NAM Stays Tight with G-77
Cuban Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque told the 30th Group of 77 Ministerial Conference on Friday that the Non Aligned Movement has an unequivocal promise of unity, cohesion and search for common objectives with the group.

Speaking for both Cuba and NAM , of which Cuba is present president, the foreign minister emphasized that joint action of these two groups is imperative to achieve the shared desire for a new international economic order that is more just and equitable.

The two groups are the most universal of the South countries, Perez Roque pointed out, and both have equal economic and social demands.

NAM has 118 member-countries and there are 131 in G77, the latter formed in 1964 to promote the collective economic interests of its members and their joint negotiating capacity on all major international economic issues.

While the minister could not detail all of the documents adopted by the NAM Summit last week, he stressed they would not duplicate or supplant the work of G-77 in economic and social matters, adding “there wasn´t a single matter in the economic and social spheres that had no response”.

NAM , the Cuban minister noted, will serve as a mechanism to support and guarantee policy definitions for the activities of G77 and China through the Joint Coordination Committee, and regular meetings and ministerial meetings on these themes.

He again insisted that joint work by the Movement and the G77 is more and more essential and urgent because “it is up to us to fight together to put an end to an unjust and unequal international economic order.”

Perez Roque also expressed gratitude to the Group of 77 and China for their traditional and invaluable support throughout the years to the just demand of the Cuban people to end the US blockade of the Island and all aggressive measures against Cuba .
