Violent Day Claims 17
Guatemalans
In the last 24 hours, Guatemala
has endured one of its bloodiest
days, in which 17 people were
killed, including four women,
according to a police report
published Friday in Guatemala
City.
In southwestern Coatepeque city,
six people were riddled with
bullets when returning from a
funeral. Nearby, in the evening,
six others were shot dead while
traveling in a van.
To date the police have been
unable to link both cases and
blame them on gang clashes.
Meanwhile in this capital, a
mother and her daughter were
murdered by unknown individuals
in their own house and another
woman was shot dead on the
street.
Also in Guatemala City,
authorities reported the death
of a 23-year-old girl and found
the bodies of two men.
Those incidents took place the
same day in which a UN team on
forced disappearances criticized
the present impunity in the
Central American nation and the
difficulties to advance in the
police investigations.
