Panama Sets up Pro-Five
Committee
A committee for the release of
five Cuban anti-terrorist
fighters unfairly imprisoned in
the US was set up in Panama, to
spread the case and join forces
to free them.
The aim of the group, founded in
La Chorrera district, is to
denounce the case and give
support to Rene Gonzalez,
Gerardo Fernandez, Antonio
Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and
Ramon Labañino, said the group's
president Herman Hernandez.
In his opinion, the trial of the
Five, as they are universally
known, was political because the
White House has not been able to
defeat the Cuban Revolution in
47 years.
These men are currently serving
harsh sentences in US prisons,
ranging from 15 years to double
life term
Their only "crime" was gathering
information about terrorist
plots by anti-Cuban
organizations in Miami, Florida,
to impede criminal actions
against the island.
The creation of this committee
is part of the world celebration
for the release of the Five,
started on September 12 and
ending on October 6, marking the
30th anniversary of explosion in
mid air of a Cuban airplane.
