Saprissa Announced Best Soccer
Club in Central America
Costa Rica's soccer club
Deportivo Saprissa demonstrated
itself the number one club of
the Central American Football
Union on Tuesday, citing the
data from International Football
Federation History and
Statistics.
The club said on its website
that Saprissa was the 78th in
the world, second only to
Mexico's Chivas in the Football
Confederation.
Saprissa had victory record
against famous European teams
including Spanish teams
Valencia, Deportivo La Coruna
and Atletico Madrid, as well as
Lazio from Italian capital Rome.
In the Federation, Saprissa
beats top Mexican teams like
America, 91st in the world, and
University of Nuevo Leon, the
97th.
The club, which is owned by
Mexican businessman Jorge
Vergara, had its best year ever
in 2005, winning both Costa
Rica's opening tournament and
the Federation championship, and
reaching the semi-finals of the
World Cup for Clubs.
