"Rice And Beans"
Bad For Cholesterol
"Rice and Beans", a favourite
dish in Limón is dangerous due
to the increase in cholesterol,
said Dr. Alvaro Blanco Vargas,
during a press workshop at the
Hotel Radisson, in San José.
"Rice and Beans" - rice and
beans with coconut and cooked in
coconut oil - is different than
the "arroz con frijoles" and is
a tradition among Limonenses.
Dr. Vargas told the workshop
that the dish increases the
"bad" cholesterol and should not
be eaten. The doctor added that
other foods that should not be
consumed are "chiccharones,
higado, cacao and "comida
chatarra" or junk food.
The doctor added that tabacco
and alcohol also increase
cholesterol levels.
