Colombian police seize some 3
tons of cocaine
Colombian police on Tuesday
seized 2.9 tons of cocaine which
the traffickers had planned to
sell to Europe.
The seizure took place close to
Necocli, in the northeastern
department of Antioquia, where
traffickers were trying to
smuggle the drugs to Europe via
Central America.
The traffickers had hidden their
shipment underground, in packets
of one kilo. The total value of
the drugs was estimated at some
29 million U.S. dollars on the
streets of Europe, police said.
Police have seized around 19
tons of the drugs this year in
Colombia, which is considered
the world's largest cocaine
producer.
