Guatemala, Belize Sign Partial
Accord
Guatemala and Belize signed
partial agreements that bury the
hatchet of centenary differences
a positive step to normalize
relations, exchange,
investments, and opening a door
towards Caribbean markets.
Lorena Colom, international
trade specialist from
Guatemala's Chamber of Commerce,
said Economy Ministers Marcio
Cuevas (Guatemala) and Eamon
Courtney (Belize) signed the
agreement Monday after 12 month
negotiations that comprehends
tax and custom exemption.
Guatemala boasts over 70
beneficiaries, namely livestock,
oils, timber, plastic articles
and latex, while Belize's
exemption cover fisheries,
tropical fruits, preserves and
jellies.
Guatemala exported 29 million
dollars worth to Belize and
imported less than three
million.
