Mexican IFE Arbitrator, No
Pressure
Only a week ahead of the federal
elections in Mexico, the Federal
Electoral Institute (IFE) called
this country´s people on Monday
to help cast the citizens´ vote
without any kind of pressure.
The call was made by IFE Chair
Luis Carlos Ugalde, who urged
the Centro de Liderazgo y
Desarrollo Humano civil
association to immediately
suspend a spot in which they
manipulate the image of
Venezuelan President Hugo
Chavez.
Ugalde warned that messages like
these "could instill fear in the
electors, through violent images
and the use of weapons that
belong to other realities out of
the Mexican context."
He highlighted that those
promotions, as those spread by
this group (very similar to
others issued before by the
governing Partido de Accion
Nacional), seek to encourage the
vote through messages that could
threaten the electors.
All the social actors that try
to encourage attendance to the
polls must behave according to
the rules established by the IFE,
he said.
