Venezuela Optimist on Latin
American Integration
Venezuela was optimistic Monday
on the Latin American
integration process, although
there could be some ups and
downs in the region’s policy,
like recent the triumph by Alan
Garcia.
Venezuela’s Foreign Minister Ali
Rodriguez termed a “step of
larger proportions” his
country’s entrance into the
MERCOSUR (Southern Common
Market), to be official here on
July 4.
The diplomat stated that
presidents of the member states
Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and
Paraguay, as well as Bolivia’s
Head of State Evo Morales, will
attend the ceremony in Caracas.
Interviewed on the Venezolana de
Television program “En Confianza,”
Rodriguez highlighted the
importance of this step to
materialize the South American
Community of Nations project,
approved in Cuzco, Peru, two
years ago.
According to him, “successes of
the country’s foreign policy,
which exasperate the most
reactionary circles in
Washington, are a sign that we
are doing well.”
