Copa, Queen of Central American
Skies
Copa Airlines, based in Panama,
has become the largest carrier
of Central America, according to
its latest performance
statistics.
Copa Airlines' growth in
passenger numbers and revenue is
also increasing the company's
worth - stocks for the company
in New York traded on a 51
percent gain at the end of last
year.
The news of Copa's expansion and
growing value even prompted
Continental Airlines to sell a
portion of its stock in the
expanding carrier to boost its
own pension fund by $75 million.
Year-on-year travel to the
Caribbean and Latin America rose
by over a quarter in 2005 and
the market represents one of the
fastest growing in global
aviation.
Geographically, Panama
represents an important central
location and Copa Airlines,
based in this capital, is
looking to take advantage of
this fact to offer wider service
for travelers looking for
cheaper and more convenient ways
