NGO´s for Nicaragua Children
Funding
A group of nongovernmental
organizations demanded Monday
the State must show greater
respect for Nicaraguan children
and youth.
According to GAPINA (Alliance
Group for Investment in Children
and Youth), it is indispensable
the general budget of the
Republic include a 5 percent
increase for education and
another 3 percent for health.
The Public Defender for
Children, Norma Moreno, added
the demanded budgetary increase
is based on recommendations by
the UN Committee for the Rights
of Children.
In Nicaragua, children and youth
account for 53 percent of the
population, but 45 percent of
people under 18 years of age are
not attending school, Moreno
noted.
Similarly, GAPINA warned that in
the Atlantic region, the
situation is alarming, because
children are not even guaranteed
medicine.
