Ecuadorian president-elect
Rafael Correa travels to
Argentina Wednesday and will
move to Chile Thursday on an
international tour before his
swearing-in ceremony foreseen
for January 15.
Correa, a 43 year-old economist,
meet the Argentinean dignitary
Nestor Kirchner to analyze
integration projects as the
possible way to provide Ecuador
entry to the South Common Market
(MERCOSUR), noted the sources
from the president-elect press
office.
The head of State will also meet
the president of the Madres de
la Plaza de Mayo Hebe Bonafini
before traveling to Santiago de
Chile where he will hold talks
with the Chilean leader Michelle
Bachelet.
After just visiting Brazil,
Bolivia and Peru, the economist
said he was in favor of seeking
unification of the region
between CAN (Andean Community)
and MERCOSUR.
Before his swearing-in on
January 15 Correa will meet in
Venezuela with Hugo Chavez
Wednesday to analyze the
proposal of refining Ecuadorian
crude oil in Venezuelan plants
as well as other programs of
energy collaboration.
Ecuador is the fifth South
American crude oil producer but
lacks the necessary refining
factories to cover its internal
demand.
Right before his inauguration
ceremony he will visit Bogota to
talk to President Alvaro Uribe
about economic issues and
fumigation along border areas.
