Still No Winner at Havana Film
Fest
Two days before for the film
festival conclusion, there are
still films to play and the
possible winner of the Coral
award is still unknown.
One of the films that will be
played on Wednesday is the
Mexican The violin, first work
of Francisco Vargas, that won
the Latin Horizons laurel in San
Sebastian, Spain.
Specialized critics in Cannes
classified this film as "a
moving history of music, fight
and repression."
It tells the story of Don
Platurco, a self-taught musician
of rural origin.
Together with his boy and
grandson, he plays on the
streets to make a living and at
the same time collaborates with
his son s guerrilla movement.
Vargas will share on Wednesday
the film with his Argentinean
colleagues Pablo Trapero (Nacido
y criado), Israel Adrián Caetano
(Crónica de una fuga) and the
Brazilian Karim A nouz (El cielo
de Suely) and Jo o Falc o (La
máquina).
