No Joke, Gasoline To Drop Again
No joke, gasoline prices will
keep falling, says the
Refinadora Costarricense de
Petróleo (Recope), who yesterday
filed a request with the
Autoridad Reguladora de los
Servicios Públicos (Aresep) for
a reduction of ¢32 colones a
litre, for both super and
regular.
Gasoline prices dropped
yesterday and within two weeks
they will fall again.
The Aresep has 15 days to study
the request and then published
in the official government
publication within 5 days.
However, as has been the case in
the few times gasoline prices
were reduced, the Aresep
decision can come as early as
Monday, meaning prices could be
changed at the pumps by as early
as the end of next week.
Recope is the state monopoly on
oil refinery and gasoline
distribution and the Aresep is
the government regulator of
public prices and services. The
prices at the pump are set by
Recope but need the Aresep
approval. The price of gasoline
is the same at all gas stations
around the country.
Once the new prices are
approved, a litre of super
gasoline will drop from the
current price of ¢580 to ¢547
and regular will drop from the
current ¢553 to ¢520. Diesel
fuel prices are not affected in
the request and will hold at
¢383 colones per litre.
One approved, this will be
second price drop this year -
the second in a row - following
a series of increases that
brought the price of a litre of
gasoline to almost ¢600
colones per litre.
