Fugitive Number 31 Caught
American, Michael Forchemer, who
has been living in Costa Rica
since 2002, is fugitive number
31 that has been caught in Costa
Rica while being sought by U.S.
authorities
According to Costa Rican
authorities, Forchemer was
wanted by authorities in North
Carolina for fraud. The
international warrant went out
on June 5 of this year and the
Tribunal Penal de San José
issued an order for the capture
of the man following a request
by U.S. authorities.
U.S. authorities have request
the man be extradited to face
the charges against him, who
allege the man formed part of a
group that called unsuspecting
victims, convincing them to have
a won a prize and give their
personal information.
The group claimed to be from the
U.S. Lottery Commission, a fake
institution, and would then use
the personal information to
defraud their victims, who would
willingly give up the personal
date in the face of having won
prices of up us$400.000 dollars.
Authorities say the group used
the internet's IP telephony to
disguise the real origin of the
caller. Some calls, authorities,
say originated from Costa Rica.
