Gasoline Prices Drop Tomorrow
The price of gasoline is set to go down tomorrow by ¢5 colones a litre following it's publication in the official newspaper La Gaceta this morning.

The reduction was approved by the Autoridad Reguladora de los Servicios Públicos (Aresep) - the body regulating public prices and services - and announced last week but takes effect at the pumps tonight at midnight.

With the reduction, the price of gasoline will drop to ¢394 from ¢399 colones for a litre of super and from ¢381 to ¢376 colones for a litre of regular. Diesel gasoline will drop by ¤ colones a litre, going from ¢286 to ¢282 colones per litre.

Even though the Refinadora Costarricense de Petróleo - the state owned refinery and distributor of gasoline products - has asked the Aresep for an increase of ¢12 colones on the price of gasoline due to rising international prices for crude oil, the regulating authority decided on a decrease instead, citing that Recope's expenditures were too high.

The price reduction means a savings of ¢225 colones on the purchase of 45 litres of super or regular gasoline and ¢180 for diesel.
