High Cost of Gasoline Lowers Demand
A report in today's edition of the Spanish language newspaper, La Nación, says that the high cost of gasoline has decreased the demand by as much as 15% to 20% in the first three months of this year, compared to the same period in 2004.

And according to Refinadora Costarricense de Petróleo (Recope), the import of crude oil has decreased by 2.6% in the last 12 months.

Gasoline prices in Costa Rica has increased dramatically in the last 12 months, ˘113 colones for a litre of super, ˘109 for regular and ˘85 colones a litre for diesel. And with the price of crude oil reaching us$58 a barrel on world markets this week, Recope has requested for approval for an increase of ˘40 colones per litre of super.

The new prices should see approval within 15 days and be at the pumps in less than 20, once it is published in the official newspaper La Gaceta.
