HellFire in La Uruca !
A voracious fire consumed pretty much what was one the old Canada Dry/ Pepsi factory in La Uruca, in front of the Best Western Irazú hotel, west of San José.

The alarm went off at 8:10pm.

Seven units and 200 firemen battle the blaze that last for hours and lit up the early evening skies. Water pressure and the closeness of fire hydrants caused difficulties for the firefighters.

More than 14 ambulances were on the scene and Transit police closed off traffic around the area an the Autopista General Cañas (ruta 1) at the Juan Pablo II bridge, rerouting traffic through Santa Ana and San Antonio de Belen.

The building occupied by the Grupo Lago, a furniture company, had several industrial units which warehouse industrial materials, like wood, rubber and flammable chemicals that allowed the fire to spread quickly. The 10.000 square metres (107.000 square foot)  building was completely destroyed.

Firefighters were able to bring to the fire under control within 1 1/2 hours and continued for more than 3 hours to put out completely.

No one was hurt in the blaze as the building was empty at the time.
