Government Has No Money To Pay Salaries and

The Ministerio de Hacienda (Finance
Ministry) confirms that it doesn't have the
money to pay the aguinaldo (Christmas bonus)
that is due in December, nor salaries of
public employees and payments of the "pensiones del régimen
no contributivo" (non-contributory pension),

Arias Blasts Honduran Decree
Condemning the Honduran coup as a throwback
to Latin America's ugly history, Costa Rican
President Oscar Arias said Tuesday that the
country can't have free and fair elections
until its de facto government lifts a
repressive decree that silenced opposition
media and forbade public gatherings.
Cellular Problems To
Continue Into Next Year
The Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad
(ICE) says problems with cellular coverage
and delivery of text messages will continue
into 2010.

soldiers took Manuel
Zelaya by force and put
on a plane headed for
Costa Rica, in a coup
d'etat since the Cold
War. Zelaya said he was
kidnapped by Honduran
military officers, who
dragged him from his
