Venezuela Parties Ask to Probe Chavez
Murder Plot

Venezuelan political parties insist on the
need to investigate a plan to kill President
Hugo Chavez, unveiled by a former
information technology director of the
Colombian Administrative Department of
Security (DAS).
The United Socialist Party of Venezuela
(PSUV), the Communist Party of Venezuela
(PCV), and Homeland for All (PPT) have
expressed deep concern over the
assassination attempt against Chavez,
disclosed by former DAS official Rafael
Garcia, and Colombian drug trafficker
Geovanny Velasquez.
On Monday, the PSUV urged the Public
Ministry to investigate the anti-Chavez
plot, which involves his Colombian peer
Alvaro Uribe.
According to PSUV leader William Lara, there
is enough evidence for the Venezuelan
General Attorney's Office to carry out a
criminal investigation to clear up the
truth, and make justice. Lara said the PSUV
National Leadership has agreed to give a
document to Attorney Luisa Ortega, demanding
to open a related investigation.
Both, Garcia and Velasquez agree that Uribe
funded plans to assassinate Chavez, Lara
said.
"Giovanni Velasquez has categorically stated
that he participated in meetings where there
were references to payments offered by the
Colombian president to attempt against the
life of the Venezuelan president," he
sustained.
Velasquez confessed in an interview with
Miami's El Nuevo Herald, broadcast by Al
Jazzera television channel, he met with
Venezuelan fugitive Manuel Rosales, who
offered $25 million to kill President Hugo
