Terror Suspects Flee Bolivia
La Paz - Cesar Navarro, president of
the Deputy Chamber special commission
probing a terrorist plot in the Bolivian
city of Santa Cruz, said main suspects in
the case have fled the country.
According to El Deber newspaper, Luis
Hurtado Vaca, adviser to Santa Cruz prefect
Ruben Costas and responsible for funding the
terrorist group dismantled in April in this
city, is among the fugitives.
Also missing are Hugo Antonio Acha,
Alejandro Melgar and Lorgio Balcazar.
Meanwhile, Attorney Marcelo Sosa announced
another 26 people will be subpoenaed this
week.
The armed group, led by Bolivian-Croatian
Eduardo Rozsa Flores who died in the police
operation along with two other
collaborators, tried to destabilize and
divide the Andean nation, according to
witnesses.
The assassination of Head of State Evo
Morales and all members of his cabinet,
during a meeting at Tititaca Lake on April
3, was also among the group's plans.
Branko Marinkovic, former president of the
civic committee, is also linked to those
violent objectives, the attorney stated.
Rozsa, Hungarian-Croatian Magyarosi Arpak,
and Irish Martin Dwyer were killed in the
operation in mid April. Bolivian-Croatian
Mario Tadik and Hungarian Elot Toazo were
detained. Juan Carlos Gueder and Paraguayan
Alcides Mendoza, both members of the Santa
Cruz Youth Union, an autonomy movement
opposing President Evo Morales' government
in that eastern region, were also detained
some days later.
