Morales Calls for Bolivian Unity

Sucre - Bolivian President Evo Morales summoned Bolivians to defend and maintain unity in the country and consolidate the democratic revolution being led by him together with the people.

We have to confront the enemy, whether inside or outside of the country, Morales said at the official ceremony to mark the 200th anniversary of the Revolution on May 25, 1809, considered the first declaration of independence in America.

He urged Bolivians to defend the country, the way Tomas Katari, Tupac Katari and Juana Azurduy did in their time.

The Bolivian leader stressed that a nation that leaves behind its past struggles and history has no conscience of its destiny.

The official ceremony took place in the municipality of El Villar, 22 miles from Sucre, with thousands of farmers and representatives of social organizations and top political and military authorities attending.

A march of indigenous and farm communities also took place to mark the day.
