Ants. Costa Rican’s army, it’s said. They
are everywhere we look. In every size you
can imagine and target every bit of food we
leave behind: chicken, honey, grease, sugar,
papaya bits, milk, apple, and even garden
plants - especially brand new ones.
Coco came screaming to me in tears when she
went to water her new plants because a
determined group of leaf cutter ants had
eaten every last little pink flower.
When we bought the plants, there were loads
of cute pink petals. Now the plant looks as
if someone stepped on it.
This took one day. I’ve seen entire gardens
disseminated by these beasts.
Chewed to Bits.
Nothing goes undiscovered by ants in Costa
Rica.
We can try a million things to keep them
away, but something tells me, they’re here
to stay.
