The Conferencia Episcopal de Costa Rica (Cecor)
- Episcopal Conference of Costa Rica - has a
approved a new "sex guide" that prohibits
youths the use of a condom, anti
contraceptive pills and other "artificial"
methods of anti-conception.
The sex guide is a series of volumes to used
as a guide in schools for sex education,
that covers topics such as love and
sexuality, affection and love and the age of
innocence.
According to volume six of the guides,
"artificial methods are illicit for the
Church as it intentionally destroys or makes
life impossible".
In the new publication, the Catholic Church
only approves natural methods of
contraception, birth control and family
planning and supports the "Billings
Ovulation Method", which according to the
Church is the is the most modern natural way
to achieve or to avoid becoming pregnant.
In the guides, the Church insists that
sexual relations should only occur within
the confines of matrimony, emphatically
promoting chastity and abstinence among
unmarried young people.
The six booklets are geared to different age
groups, the first being targeted towards
parents of children six years of age and
under; the second booklet targeting children
between 7 and 9 years of age; the third for
minors between 10 and 12; the fourth talking
to adolescents between 13 and 15; the fifth,
for those aged 16 and 17; and, the sixth and
last, for those 18 years of age and older.
The booklets are based on the theme that
human sexuality is a sacred mystery which
must be according to the moral and doctrinal
teaching of the Church, always bearing in
mind the effects of original sin.
The booklets recommend that adolescents not
talk about sex, something that should be
dealt in a private manner. |
