Ecuador To
Increase Troops On Border With Colombia
Quito -
Ecuador announced on Thursday a military
reinforcement on the northern border with
Colombia to prevent incursions by rebel
groups.
Ecuadorian Defense Minister Javier Ponce
made the announcement while visiting the
Tufino quarters at Tulcan, Carchi province
to check the situation of the northern
border.
Ponce said the diplomatic ties between
Ecuador and Colombia are not in their best
situation to coordinate actions, so all
moves to retake the national sovereignty
will be based on security.
Ecuador broke ties with Colombia on March 3
last year, two days after Colombia bombed a
rebel camp located in the Ecuador territory
without notifying Ecuador of the operation,
a move Quito considered a violation of the
Ecuadorian sovereignty.
