Workers On Indefinite Strike
Tension again takes over the ports of Limón
and Moín on the Caribbean coast, as the
Junta de Administración Portuaria y de
Desarrollo Económico de la Vertiente
Atlántica (Japdeva) began yesterday an
indefinite strike action.
The strike began at 6am and will contine
until the management provides answers to the
workers, according to Leroy Pérez, a
spokesperson for the dock workers union, the
Sindicato de Trabajadores de Japdeva (Sintrajap).
However, Francisco Jiménez, president of
Japdeva, said he was not fully aware of all
the worker's petitions, but assured that the
port cannot be paralyzed.
Pérez said the list of complaints is long
and the workers are looking for an immediate
solution on at least on the issue of
modernization of Japdeva and the future of
the concession of the ports.
The union leader says that the government
does not have a firm plan for Japdeva and
the ports and assures that all the workers
complaints are well known to Japdeva
management and the government.
