Given that yesterday, May 1, was Labour Day,
it appears no one told the Chinese workers
working on the construction of the new
stadium in the Parque La Sabana.
Some 200 of the 800 workers imported
directly from China were at their jobs at
the new Estadio Nacional yesterday, while
the rest of the country was celebrating the
traditional Labour Day, that included
marches along the streets of downtown San
Jose and a gala event at the Legislative
Assembly, topped off by a report on the
nation by Costa Rican president, Oscar
Arias.
Although the majority of the workers do not
speak Spanish, the few that did said that
work on the stadium must continue, no matter
of which holiday, including Labour Day.
One worker explained, that they are in the
initial phase of construction and that the
driving of the piles to support the
structure cannot be detained.
In total, 800 workers from China are
building the new stadium which is a donation
by the government of China. |
