Law On The Fast Track
Legislators have put the "Ley
Antimafia", a bill to curb organized
crime on the fast track, which according to the Fiscal General de la Republica (Attorney General), Francisco
Dall'Anese, has already taken over the
country and will take over political
parties, finance political campaigns and
take over the government.
The organized crime bill could hit the
legislative floor as soon as Monday, now
that the proposal complied Wednesday with
the publication in the official government
publication, La Gaceta.
Under the rules, legislators now have to
wait two days (Thursday and Friday) before
debate and fist vote can take place.
The head of the Liberación (ruling party)
Jorge Ménde said that his party will not
excerise its right to speak on the bill in
an effort to save time and get to the vote
as quickly as possible.
The bill, which reforms the Código Procesal
Penal (Criminal Procedure Cod) and the
Código Penal (Criminal Code),is a high
priority for the legislature, all political
parties looking forward to a speedy vote.
The Ley Antimafia would give judicial
authorities (police) the tool to react to
organized crime, which includes telephone
wiretapping and longer preventive detention
times for criminals who are part of an
organized crime network.
