New Casino Tax
Being Discussed By Commission
A new tax on casinos being discussed by the
legislators of the Comisión de Hacendarios
could add another ¢14 billion colones per
year to the government's coffers.
Patricia Quirós, legislator for the PAC
party, said the tax would be paid monthly
and dependent on the hours of operations of
the casino.
For instance, casinos that operate less than
10 hours a day would pay ¢947.000 colones
instead of the current ¢120.000, and casinos
that operate between 10 and 20 hours per day
would pay up to ¢1.5 million colones per
month.
In addition, casinos would see the tax on
slot machines increase from the current
¢100.000 colones per machine per month to
¢630.000 colones.
