Zelaya Calls
on Coupists to Stop Repression
Tegucigalpa - Honduran president Manuel
Zelaya, called today on coupist general
Romero Vazquez to stop repression and the
massacre against the Honduran people
demonstrating peacefully at the Toncontin
international airport.
In statements to Venezuelan TV network
TELESUR, Zelaya appealed to the hjeart of
the military chief to abstain from
destroying the people and his own family and
contain the advance of the tropos.
He also expressed the ever greater need to
arrive in Honduras to be beside his people
and stop repression. The Central American
head of state stressed in a contact by
telephone from the plane, that it is
shameful that the armed forces repress the
people who went peacefully to receive its
president.
I am the president and have a historical
misión: to govern in the name of the
people,l of justice and change to reduce
poverty, said Zelaya, who assured he marches
toward Honduras unarmed.
Repression at the airport grounds has left
at least two dead and several wounded, where
thousands await the arrival of the
constitutional president, Manuel Zelaya.
The military threw tear gas and fired their
weapons against the crowd concentrated in
the areas of the runway where Zelaya�s
plane is about to land.
The platoon that fired the shots withdrew
soon after launching the attack. Among the
dead there is a minor and a young man,
according to the first reports.
Coupist tropos also fired against the
journalists who covered the event and cut
the transmission of several media. |
