Costa Rica Now Leader In AH1N1 Deaths In The
Region, As It Records Third Death
A 55 year old man is the third AH1N1 flu
virus victim in Costa Rica, said the
ministra de Salud, María Luisa Ávila
yesterday.
The man was suffering from a chronic
pulmonary infaction caused by his 44 year
smoking habit and was too weak to fight off
the AH1N1 flu virus.
Ministra Ávila said the man spend days at
home with the flu before entering the
Hospital San Juan de Dios where he was
immediately admitted. Salud officials have
conducted a thorough investigation to
determine if anyone else was infected by the
man.
Ministra Ávila explained that the AH1N1 flu
virus acts aggressively with smokers.
Costa Rica now is the Central American
country with the greatest number of AH1N1
deaths. Guatemala and Honduras both have two
deaths, while Nicaragua, El Salvador and
Panama have not recorded any deaths.
