Vehicular
Restrictions Of San Jose On They Way Back
The vehicular restrictions of San Jose will
be back soon, possibly as soon as next week,
and with a higher cost for infractions, the
Ministerio de obras Públicas y Transportes (MOPT)
made the announcement on Friday.
The ministra de Transportes, Karla Gonzalez,
said the transportation department has been
working feverishly to restore the
restrictions that were struck down by the
Constitutional Court, measures that
according to the ministra are vital to
minimize traffic congestion in the San Jose downtown
core and surrounding areas.
The ministra also said that the fine for
violating the restrictions would now be ¢34.700 colones and not the ¢5.000 colones until the
restrictions were struck down.
"We wanted to have a strong technical and
legal base before enacting the restrictions
again, and we have them ready", said
ministra Gonzalez.
The vehicular restrictions were struck down
by the Constituional Court last June 12 when
it sided with a "recurso amparo" (appeal)
filed by the former director of the
Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ),
José Rafael Guillen.
Guillen said the restrictions violated his
right to circulate freely and the court
ruled in his favour. |
