Venezuela Amendment in
New Phase
Caracas - The projected
constitutional amendment
in Venezuela enters a
new phase Saturday with
the registration at the
National Electoral
Council (CNE) of
political organizations
and groups of citizens.
Those present there can
join one of the two
blocs approved by the
electoral body to
support or reject the
referendum advocating
endless reelection of
the president, mayors,
and regional
legislators.
CNE yesterday approved
holding the referendum
on the constitutional
amendment on February
15, after it was
presented by Venezuelan
National Assembly
President Cilia Flores.
The CNE session also
agreed maintaining the
terms and conditions of
the question approved by
Parliament to pass the
constitutional
amendment.
CNE President Tibisay
Lucena said in press
conference the audits on
the electoral
registration have
developed well, and
between 1,000 and 1,500
posts are being fit out
nationwide with
information materials.
This new phase of the
constitutional amendment
will strain the stances
between supporters and
detractors even more,
after a plot in Puerto
