Residents in this
westernmost Cuban
province are marking
Saturday the triumphant
entry of the Caravan of
Victory headed by Fidel
Castro Ruz fifty years
ago.
Local young people will
make the same trip the
leader of the Cuban
revolution did at the
time in that region,
wearing olive uniforms
like the guerrillas who
celebrated the
revolutionary triumph
throughout the island.
The caravan starts in
Candelaria locality,
bordering Havana, and is
expected tonight at the
provincial capital,
where a multitude
acclaimed Fidel Castro
and his caravan members
50 years ago.
At the historic
intersection of Jose
Marti and Rafael Ferro
Streets, the rebel
leader then referred to
the challenges of the
emerging social project,
and reminded of the
feats by Pinar del Rio
citizens in the fight
against the Fulgencio
Batista dictatorship.
