prioritize the
investigations into the
murders of public
transportation drivers,
a high-risk profession

During a meeting with
officials from the
National Civil Police
(PNC), the Interior
minister instructed to
focus on the
investigations and
actions to capture
organized crime gangs
behind the murders of
drivers.
According to statistics,
177 bus drivers and
assistants were killed
last year, and seven
have been murdered so
far this year.
The latest attack took
place in southern
Guatemala City on
Thursday morning, when a
passenger was riddled
with bullets and two
people were wounded.
The police arrested
seven people allegedly
involved in the
shooting.
"Those arrested are not
mere gangsters, they
belong to organized
gangs," said PNC Chief
Marlene Blanco Lapola,
who called on the Public
Ministry to identify the
brains behind the
murders, which are
destabilizing the
country.
She did not rule out the
political nature of the
attacks on public
transportation drivers. |
