Honduran Police Take on Organized Crime
Tegucigalpa - The Honduran National Criminal
Investigation Division (DNIC) has increased
its operations against hit men and organized
crime due to increasing social concerns of
violence and insecurity, says the local
media.
DNIC Director, Francisco Murillo, says they
deal with complex crimes and operate against
organized criminal groups whose activities
include coordinated actions and
intentionally selected victims.
These criminal groups are experts at
handling weapons, have their own firing
ranges, and some individuals within the
groups have had police or military training,
says La Tribuna newspaper.
Police officers told the media of some of
their plans to combat organized crime, such
as confiscating illegal weapons, changing
the laws regarding firearm possession and
designing a strategy to enhance National
Police and Armed Force activities.
Among the victims from 2006 to date are 200
policemen, 17 lawyers, three journalists and
thousands of people. |
